Kestrels come here above all in winter, during breeding season.
As one can gather from its name, this Lesser Kestrel Colonies Special Protection Area is located in the historic old town of Plasencia, in the province of Cáceres. And naturally, the most relevant bird species in this area is the lesser kestrel. They gather here forming large concentrations, especially during the breeding season.
This is one of the urban SPAs of Extremadura, inhabited mostly by specimens of this species, which are highly accustomed to living alongside humans and nest in the hollows in buildings.
