The Museum of the Town of Mérida houses a collection on the Mérida-born sculptor and other pieces that take one on a route through the town's history.
Mérida's modern museum, run by the municipal council, in the popular Costurero building, a space formerly used to house the Extremadura Geology Museum.
In this museum space you will find a collection of works by the Mérida-born sculptor Juan de ávalos, a favourite son and winner of the gold medal of the town, as well as other collections that take one on a route through local history. Perhaps the most outstanding of these are the collections by Ramón Carreto, a magnificent collection of dolls, and other extremely valuable ethnographic objects.
