A protected space with ecological peculiarities that have made it the ideal refuge for an abundance of aquatic fauna and bird species like the golden eagle and the black stork.
Between the river Tagus and the river Salor, the Llanos de Alcántara an Brozas SPA unfurls as an area of gentle slopes criss-crossed by little streams and dotted with shallow ponds and pools that provide a habitat for a wide variety of aquatic fauna, five species of fish and one reptile: the Mediterranean turtle.
If you come to visit this protected space, you will discover vegetation with a conspicuous absence of trees, with the exception of some riparian woods. The landscape here is comprised of large expanses of plains and pasture lands which are dry in summer. But the places where there is some water are an irresistible draw for the species that live here during this season.
The ecological peculiarities of this Special Protection Area have favoured the presence of important birds like the golden eagle, the black stork, the Egyptian vulture, the griffon vulture and the great bustard.
