Located in the municipality of Gata in Cáceres province, the Chapel of El Cristo del Humilladero was declared an asset of cultural interest in 1995. It is located on the main access route into this village and one can identify two clearly-differentiated sections in the building. One is the original part, which dates back to the 16th century, and the other corresponds to a later extension which is dated in the 18th century.

The more modern part is made of masonry, and the older building is made of quarried stone. On the inside, the most notable feature is the ribbed roof which tops the original chamber. The vaulted ceiling traces out a four-petalled flower. Back outside, you can see the mark of the different openings which enabled one to see the cross from any direction, as this was the true purpose of 'humilladeros' or Calvary crosses.
