This natural space contains up to eight different habitats where you can enjoy nature to the full.
Dehesas de Jerez SPA and SCI is formed by an extensive area of dehesas, or pasture lands, located in the southwest of the province of Badajoz. More specifically, it encompasses the towns of Jerez de los Caballeros, Zahínos, Villanueva del Fresno and Valle de Matamoros, among others, and the basins of the rivers Godolid, Cofrentes and Alcarrache until the area where the river Guadiana forms the border with Portugal.
The area is particularly notable for its fields of holm-oaks and oak trees. The fish in the waters of its rivers include endangered species like the jarabugo (anaecypris hispanica) and the boga (leporinus obtusidens). Also important are the populations of Mediterranean turtles and European pond turtles, and otters can be found in the region's streams.
