  • It was built as a result of a promise made by a noble lady, who ordered this promise to be fulfilled in the municipality of Garrovillas de Alconétar in Cáceres.

The Convent of San Antonio de Padua is located in the town of Garrovillas de Alconétar. It was founded as a result of a promise made by doña María de Guzmán el Bueno y Figueroa, daughter of the Count of Niebla, who said that if her husband, the first Count of Alba, was set free by the Portuguese she would order a convent to be built in this place, and this she did in the 15th century.

As you will see, it was built of dressed granite, although only the remains of part of the single nave church have been preserved. There are also remnants of the irregularly shaped, two-storey cloister. The second storey has Tuscan columns which support an entablature decorated with triglyphs and smooth metopes.
